Adaptive threshold for discrete fourier transform‐based channel estimation in generalized frequency division multiplexing system

Abstract Even though generalized frequency division multiplexing is an alternative waveform method expected to replace the orthogonal in future, its implementation must alleviate channel effects. Least‐squares (LS), a low‐complexity estimation technique, could be improved by using discrete Fourier transform (DFT) without increasing complexity. Unlike usage of LS method, DFT‐based requires receiver know impulse response (CIR) length, which unknown. This study introduces simple, yet effective, CIR length estimator utilizing estimation. As cyclic prefix (CP) commonly set longer than it possible search through first samples if CP larger threshold remaining samples. An adaptive scale also designed lower error probability estimation, and simple signal‐to‐interference‐noise ratio proposed sparse preamble support use scale. A software simulation used show ability system estimate length. Due shorter rural area, performance slightly poorer compared urban environment. Nevertheless, satisfactory shown for both environments.
